Foot and Ankle

The foot and ankle consist of 33 joints, 26 bones and more than 100 ligaments, tendons and muscles. Ankles act as a foundation and a shock absorber, while the foot provides flexibility and resiliency. The foot is a highly mechanical apparatus, and it carries the entire weight of the body when we stand, walk and run. The ankle joint operates by swinging the foot up and down; it also swivels the foot from side-to-side.

If you suffer from a foot or ankle condition, you know how painful it can be to stand or walk. Even common problems such as a bunion, ingrown nail, callus or improper shoe fit can be debilitating. The Podiatrists at South Bend Orthopaedics are dedicated to providing expert diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitative care for all foot and ankle problems. Our board-certified, fellowship-trained physicians are the leaders in providing foot care for children and adults.
