Dr. Joseph Statz is an orthopedic surgeon who is fellowship-trained in adult reconstruction, the field of hip and knee replacements. During his residency and fellowship, he received extensive training in the tissue-sparing direct anterior approach to total hip replacement and is excited to offer this to his patients in South Bend. Additionally, he was thoroughly trained in total knee replacements, partial knee replacements (including unicompartmental knee replacements and patellofemoral knee replacements) as well as complex revision hip and knee replacements.
Dr. Statz received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame, graduating summa cum laude in 2010. He then received his Doctorate of Medicine degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 2014, where he graduated in the top 25% of his class. He then went on to complete his orthopedic surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, in 2019 where he was recognized as being the resident with the best clinical orthopedic knowledge. He then completed one additional year of subspecialty fellowship training in primary and revision hip and knee replacements at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, NC, finishing in the summer of 2020.
Dr. Statz enjoys building trusting relationships with his patients and helping to provide them with pain relief and improved function through nonoperative and operative modalities. He tries to clearly explain to patients their orthopedic problems and help them make the best decisions in their orthopedic care.
Outside of orthopedics, Dr. Statz spends as much time as he can with his wife and two daughters. They enjoy going outdoors, visiting family in the area, and attending Fighting Irish athletic events.
