Dr. Mencias is physician president of South Bend Orthopaedics. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky and then eventually moved to the Indianapolis area while he was still young. His parents are first generation immigrants from the Philippines. His father is a retired anesthesiologist and his mother is a retired chemist. His brother is a nationally recognized Managing Director in Wealth Management at Merrill Lynch. Dr. Mencias graduated valedictorian of his high school class at Roncalli High School in 1990 and then graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame in 1994. He graduated with honors from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1998. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Indiana University in 2003 and then completed the renowned Fellowship at the Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center. He joined South Bend Orthopaedics in 2004 and has enjoyed collaborating with and learning from all of his partners. He has served on the executive leadership committee of SBO for several years. He has spoken at multiple national meetings and frequently serves as an instructor at national courses educating other surgeons on advanced techniques of hand, wrist, and elbow surgery. He is a recognized expert in complex reconstruction of the hand, wrist, and elbow. He has been a consultant for multiple large orthopaedic companies serving in educational and implant development roles. He is the chief consultant for hand, wrist, and elbow injuries for the University of Notre Dame Athletic Department. He has a beautiful wife Karen Mencias, and four wonderful children: Mackenzie (18), Mia (16), Mikayla (11), and Jack his first son who is a newborn. Dr. Mencias is very active in charity and community service in the Michiana Area. He is proud of the SBO legacy and looks forward to providing you with expert care of the upper extremity.
