Profile
Dr. Paul Smucker holds dual board certifications in both physical medicine and rehabilitation and in pain Medicine. He grew up in Goshen, IN and received his undergrad from Goshen College and went on to attend Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency at the University of Colorado. In my focus of non-operative spine care and interventional pain medicine, I initially practiced in Central Illinois, where I met my wonderful wife. During this time, I secured Board Certification in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, as well as Board Certification in Pain Medicine.
I have always felt a desire to return to my roots in Northern Indiana, where I still have family and friends. So, in 2015, when given an opportunity to work with South Bend Orthopaedics, I jumped at the chance. Since joining the group, I have been able to work with a great group of colleagues in this great community. I continue to focus on the evolving field of Spine Care/Pain Management.
My greatest practice satisfaction comes with hearing about my patient’s ability to return to their daily and recreational activities with decreased pain.
Philosophy – Employing the most advanced spine care tools available is not enough. I never lose sight of the real goal, pain reduction and improved function. For this I need the patient to take an active role in setting our combined goals. My aim is to focus on functional restoration. The latest spine care techniques, physical therapy, and non-opioid medicines are focused on the patient’s individual needs.
